What We Believe

In communication, very little of the message is conveyed through vocabulary and grammar. Most of the message is conveyed through pragmatics, or the ways people say what they do. How you say it is deeply tied to cultural identity. CAL Learning programs focus on the relationship between culture and communication and leveraging this knowledge to benefit your business.

To successfully work with different cultures, you should know:

1) What is the most effective communication style for interacting in this culture? What is the best way to get my message across? What interactional skills do I need to apply? Even speakers of the same language may communicate differently because of their cultural backgrounds.

2) What are best practices for business communications within the culture? How do I use language most effectively in business writing, customer service, phone conversations, teamwork, presentations, meetings and other professional settings?

3) What are the cultural roots that created this communication style? Why do they communicate like they do?

Program Design and Teaching Methodology

What are management's goals for this program? What are the goals, needs and expectations of the trainees? After a needs analysis, we customize a program to suit your needs and goals.

CAL Learning programs emphasize practical skills for improved intercultural communications. Our methodology incorporates adult learning principles. We know that people learn most effectively when activities are skills-based, have application to real-life situations, and draw on the vast experience and knowledge of all participants. Training activities incorporate authentic workplace scenarios and documents, and have direct application to workplace communication.

Program participants work together in various setting including small group, pair, and whole class activities. Assessment is ongoing throughout the course, and includes peer review, instructor feedback, and self-evaluation.

  • Role Play

  • Case Studies
  • Self Assessment
  • Small Group Discussion
